About me

Dorothea Suh is a Ph.D. candidate in Ethnomusicology at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.
Her dissertation explores the oral traditions of Korea, specializing in the socio-cultural influence, transcription and literary analysis.

Her fieldwork was conducted in 2011 at the
Seoul National University and she was also a participant at the International Gugak Workshop for Internatl. Scholars at the National Gugak Center Korea in 2011.

Other interests include medieval songs, music of the renaissance and KPop.

She also writes (in english, german, korean) for the Korea.net Blog and Seoul City Blog.

In 2012 she was awarded with the AKS -
Academy of Korean Studies- Fellowship (South Korea) and in 2010 the E.W. Kuhlmann Fellowship (Germany).
She holds a diploma in Violin Education and studied under Prof. Zakhar Bron and Prof. Grigory Zhislin.
